Together with their fellow student and good friend painter Vilhelmas Purvīti, they spent the spring and summer of that year in Jelgava, devoting themselves to the development of diploma theses, which they even exhibited in the local exhibition of their works in the fall, receiving quite favorable evaluations from the press.
However, the specific market square in Jelgava has not survived in the form we see in the painting - it was destroyed during the Second World War. Since 1960, it has been called the Central Square of Jelgava, currently it is given the name of Herzog Jēkab. After World War II, the market was no longer held in this square, it was moved further to the bank of the Driksa river. Comparing the old photographs, it can be concluded that Walters did his thesis with almost topographical accuracy.
