Painted in 1890 en grisaille, this work was made to illustrate Weeks' article "Street Life in India" published in Harper's Magazine in August 1890. It is a smaller variant of the painting of the same title formerly in the collection of the Portland Public Library, Maine. It will be included in the forthcoming Weeks catalogue raisonné being prepared by Dr. Ellen K. Morris.
